David Beckham Academy Coming to Richmond

The David Beckham Academy: Richmond Satellite Academy

In an effort to support youth soccer and to assist RYSA’s Richmond MB United Scotland touring team in their fundraising efforts, The David Beckham Academy will be holding a Satellite Academy Camp in Richmond for both boys and girls the weekend of June 19th.

Led by a team of coaches hand-selected by David Beckham, the Academy coaching staff offers their own unique and professional knowledge of the game to boys and girls aged 7-13 years old, using the same training curriculum used at both the Los Angeles and the London Academy.  The Academy is an exciting and rewarding experience for young aspiring athletes. Every player will come away accepting the importance of hard work, healthy living, team concepts and will understand the importance of having fun every time they step on the field.

Pub Night Encore

Pub nights have proved to be a popular fundraiser for the boys’ Scotland Tour.  And so, keep March 28, 2009 free on your calendars because …. back by popular demand is another fun-filled evening with good friends, food and drink, door prizes, silent auction and more.  Tickets are only $12 (includes a pasta buffet and caesar salad, and a chance to win a door prize) for this event at Legends Pub, 6511 Buswell Street in Richmond.

You can get your tickets from the parents of any team member, or send us an e-mail at fundraising@richmondunitedfc.com.

Mercedes Benz Sign On As Title Sponsors

Jeff Nelson was a special guest at Richmond United’s second pub night, as he was there to present the team with a cheque for $7,500 on behalf of Mercedes Benz Canada. In recognition of the title sponsorship, the Mercedes Benz logo will be prominently displayed on team uniforms, tracksuits and bags. The team will now be known as Richmond MB United Football Club.

Head Coach Brad Kirkland is particularly pleased to have the close association with Mercedes Benz. “We are trying to build a team in the Mercedes image”, he said. “Strong, powerful, and fast, yet with great touch and aesthetic appeal. We couldn’t have asked for a more appropriate title sponsor!”

And, from all the boys on the team, a huge cheer to Jeff and the Mercedes team for the support they have shown. THANKS MB!

Second Pub Night Lined Up

If at first you succeed, do it again.  With that in mind, Richmond United FC is following up their hugely successful June pub night with a second one on November 22nd.  This one will also be held at JP Malones pub in Richmond (9031 Blundell Rd to be precise) from 6:30 p.m. until the karaoke volunteers run out!

Tickets are only $15 each, and include a burger and beer or wine.  There will be a number of highly desirable items available in the silent auction, as well as numerous raffle prizes.  Come on out for a great night with family and friends!

Metal Recycling Project A Huge Success

Richmond United FC’s metal recycling project ended in mid-October.  Despite the rapidly declining price of commodities, we were able to generate over $4,000 in funds for the Scotland tour.  Thank you to all the hard working volunteers, as well as all the metal donors.

Not only was this a valuable fundraising venture, but it was also a tremendously educational one for the boys.  Richmond Steel Recycling, who worked closely with the RUFC parent group, took all the boys on a tour of their recycling facility.  We now have a number of young experts who can tell ferrous from non-ferrous, all in the name of saving the environment while making some money at it!

Big Screen TV Finds New Home

Dominic Calla was the lucky winner of the 42″ LG Plasma TV that was the feature prize in the Richmond United FC fundraising raffle.  The winning ticket was drawn on the final day of the 2008 BC Youth Provincial Championships by the President of BC Soccer, Steve Reed.  Dominic, who was at his daughter game in North Vancouver, drove back to Richmond where he and his son Paolo were presented with the TV by Theo Lorenz and Justin Turner-Pearce, two members of the RUFC team.  Congratulations Dominic, and thank you to the hundreds of people who supported the raffle.

Saturday May 31, 2008

Close games, lots of goals, great sportsmanship and a super sunny day - you couldn’t have asked for more from the Richmond United Invitational Tournament that was held at Hugh Boyd Artificial Turf fields on Saturday May 31st.  Killarney SC, Peace Arch SC and the Zone 4 BC Summer Games team joined RUFC to parade their skills and competitive edge to great effect.  The four teams were evenly matched, as evidenced by the results shown below.  Our thanks to all the players, coaches and parents for supporting our Scotland funraising efforts, and for the fantastic atmosphere in which the games were played.
